Linux Mint Nadia “14.1″ nuova ISO rilasciata per correggere alcuni bug
Il team di Linux Mint ha deciso di rilasciare una nuova immagine ISO di Linux Mint 14 Nadia. Le nuove immagini caricate sui server sono state rinominate in Linux Mint Nadia “14.1″
Il motivo di questo è da ricercarsi nelle necessità di realizzare delle nuove ISO esenti dai bug presenti al momento del rilascio di Linux Mint 14, uno fra tutti il problema dell’eccessivo uso della CPU in presenza di schede video Intel.
Come detto su questi problemi erano noti fin dal rilascio (erano stati segnalati nelle note di rilascio) ma all’epoca Clem li aveva marcati come accettabili. Visto e considerato però il ciclo di rilascio di Linux Mint ovvero che viene rilasciata quando è pronta (non ha date prefissate come Ubuntu) c’è da chiedersi come mai non si è voluto aspettare di risolvere questi bug prima di rilasciare l’ISO finale.
Comunque, vediamo quali sono i bug fixati in questa nuova ISO:
- High CPU usage, low performance on Intel GPU
This was caused by a race condition
between Plymouth and Xorg and affected owners of Intel cards in
particular. Rather than using the “intel” driver, Xorg was randomly
using “modesetting” or “fbdev” and the desktop was rendered by the CPU
rather than the GPU using LLVMPIPE software rendering.This issue was fixed in MDM 1.0.8 which
is available as an update in Maya backports and in Nadia and which is
installed by default on the new ISOs.
- No DNS resolution, Internet not working in virtual machine
Linux Mint now uses OpenDNS as a fallback
for DNS resolution. If the system fails to connect to a DNS server, the
resolution is done via OpenDNS. This guarantees better out of the box
connectivity especially in virtual machines.
- Installer fails to install grub-efi
A bug was fixed and the installer now
successfully installs the grub-efi packages in EFI installations. You
still need to disable Secure Boot and depending on the implementation of
EFI on your system you might have to specify the location of the EFI
boot file (EFI/BOOT/grubx64.efi).
Chi ha già installato Linux Mint 14 Nadia non deve scaricare la nuova ISO in quanto questi bug sono stati fixati con gli aggiornamenti di sistema.
